2026 ShakeOut Drill & Updated Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
UDOT’s Emergency Management has released a new version of the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) just in time for the 2026 Great Utah ShakeOut on Thursday, April 16. Be sure you’re ready by taking a few quick steps:
Delete any previous versions of the EOP.
Access the new version by scanning the QR code or visiting https://eop.udot.utah.gov on your phone or computer.
Save it to your device for easy access:
iPhone (Safari): Tap the Share icon > Add to Home Screen.
Android (Chrome): Open the menu > Scroll to Add to Home Screen.
Don’t forget to allow notifications so you receive timely updates.
Here’s what you can expect during the 2026 ShakeOut drill on Thursday, April 16:
At 10:15 a.m., you’ll receive a message to Drop, Cover, and Hold On and to wait 60 seconds before evacuating your building.
Your supervisor will check in to confirm your status.
You'll receive a link in your email from Emergency Management to complete an employee accountability form. Just confirm your status and location—most information will auto-populate.
Click here for a detailed overview of the actions UDOT employees will take during the Great ShakeOut. Emergency teams will also assess potential damage at both UDOT facilities and in the community field.
New this year:
Share your “ShakeOut Selfies!” Send a photo of you or your coworkers participating in Drop, Cover, and Hold On to Hailey Knowlton at hknowlton@utah.gov. Photos may be featured on ScreenCloud TVs and in the UDOT Employee Newsletter.
What you can do now to prepare for an emergency:
Know your role: Identify the essential functions of your job. If you're not available, who can fill in?
Build emergency kits for home and work. Review and refresh them every six months. Find an Emergency Kit checklist here.
Take inventory of what you'd need to function in a real emergency. Share your insights with Emergency Management.
