ADA Title II Rule for Web Content | Countdown to Compliance

With the April 24 deadline for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II rule for web content approaching, we're in the final stretch to make sure public-facing digital content you create or manage is accessible to all users. To support this effort, we’ve created a Digital Accessibility Resource Hub, your central source for guidance and best practices when creating or updating content such as documents, presentations, videos, and applications.

Helpful things to know:

All public-facing digital content created or updated after April 24 must meet digital accessibility requirements.
- Examples of content that needs to be compliant include: a UDOT presentation at a City Council meeting, a form for the public to submit a damage claim, a report provided to the legislature.
Content intended only for internal audiences (including contractors and consultants), such as Contractor Zone, Manuals of Instruction or Standard Specifications and Drawings, is not required to meet accessibility standards, even if publicly posted on the UDOT website. However, creating accessible content is still strongly encouraged.
We have been working with web content managers and public involvement consultants to bring priority public-facing website content into compliance.
The Environmental team is developing a Microsoft Word template to support Section 508-compliant environmental documents. We’ll share updates as they’re finalized.

We produce a wide range of content, and we are continuing to work with the Utah Department of Technology Services (DTS) to clarify how these requirements apply across different content types. Guidance may evolve, and updates will be shared as they become available.
