From One Generation to the Next: A UDOT Family Story

At UDOT, careers often span generations. Many employees follow family members into public service, sharing knowledge, pride, and a commitment to safety. Experienced mentors pass down best practices, while newer generations bring fresh ideas and innovation. For these families, working at UDOT is more than a job—it’s a shared dedication to serving Utah and keeping communities moving.

One example of this generational legacy is the Chaston family. Doug Chaston and his wife, Marsha Chaston (retired), represent the earlier generation, laying a strong foundation rooted in public service. Their son, Eric Chaston, I-15 Farmington to SLC Project Deputy Director, continued that legacy and was later joined by his cousin, Clint Chaston, Region Four Materials Engineering Technician IV.

The next generation followed close behind. Clint’s son, Korben Chaston, is a Transportation Technician at the Cedar City station, while Eric’s son, Garrett Chaston, is an intern with the Traffic Management Division’s Signal Operations. The Chaston family’s connection to UDOT also extends through marriage, including Eric’s son-in-law, Moroni Del Castillo, a Transportation Technician at the Draper station in Region Two, and Clint’s son-in-law, Quaid Mackert, an intern with the Traffic Management Division’s Signal Operations.

Together, the Chaston family reflects how values, experience, and service are passed from one generation to the next at UDOT.
