Zero Fatalities 2025 Statewide Traffic Fatality Numbers

UDOT and the Department of Public Safety released preliminary 2025 traffic fatality data, showing progress — and reminding us that the goal of Zero Fatalities remains critical.

In 2025, 264 people lost their lives on Utah roads, down from 277 in 2024 and the lowest total since 2019. Although this decrease is encouraging, every life lost represents a person and a family forever changed.

“While fewer lives were lost this year, even one death is one too many,” said Shaunna Burbidge, Zero Fatalities Program Manager. “These numbers help us understand where risks remain and remind us that the choices we make on the road can save lives.”

Despite the overall decrease, serious concerns remain. Motorcyclist fatalities increased by 32%, and teen fatalities nearly doubled, rising from 18 in 2024 to 31 in 2025. Trends are often linked to visibility issues, inexperience, distraction, and risky behaviors.
