Be Ready UDOT: Emergency Preparedness Starts Now
“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” — Benjamin Franklin
The Great Utah ShakeOut is coming up on April 16, 2026. On that day, people across the state will practice what to do during an earthquake at work, school, and home.
While the drill focuses on earthquakes, the bigger message is simple: emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. Being prepared isn’t just about one event—it’s about being ready for anything.
Think about preparedness this way: could you handle an unexpected situation no matter where you are? Taking a little time now can make a big difference later—for you, your family, and your coworkers.
Getting started doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Focus on a few key steps:
Make a Plan
Create a family communication and meeting plan in case cell service is down. Know how you’ll reconnect if you’re separated and where you’ll meet.
Build a Kit
Put together emergency supply kits for both home and work. Review them twice a year and update items as needed—especially for children or pets.
Be Informed
Check your home and workspace for items that could become potential hazards during an earthquake or other emergency. Consider basic first aid training, like Stop the Bleed, so you’re ready to help if someone is injured.
Stay Connected
Sign up for local alerts by texting GETEMERGENCY to 90999 and receive updates and preparedness tips.
Prepared employees mean safer responses, stronger teams, and better outcomes when it matters most.
