FHWA Mobile Asphalt Technology Center Visits Utah
UDOT is excited to host a visit from the Federal Highway Administration’s Mobile Asphalt Technology Center (MATC) this June. The MATC team travels across the country providing hands-on asphalt education, demonstrations, and technical expertise through its mobile asphalt technology lab.
Employees involved with asphalt work are encouraged to attend with their supervisor’s approval. These events are free and offer a valuable opportunity to learn from national asphalt experts.
This opportunity was sparked after Cameron Kergaye brought the initiative back from the Transportation Research Board (TRB) conference in 2025. He worked with Ben Maughan to help coordinate efforts with the MATC team on a future visit to Utah. Howard Anderson has been leading the connection, partnering with the Utah Asphalt Pavement Association (UAPA) to invite industry partners and spread the word.
Registration is now open for the following events:
• MATC Open House - Wednesday, June 3, Region Four (Hurricane), 8 a.m. to noon
• MATC Open House - Tuesday, June 9, UDOT Complex, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Asphalt 101 - Wednesday, June 10, UDOT Complex, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visit the UAPA Events page for registration details and to sign up.
Thank you to Scott Nussbaum, Ken Talbot, and Shawn Lambert, who were essential in supporting the visit to UDOT.
