Employee Development and Performance Information on
Stormwater is defined as rain and snow melt that runs off surfaces such as rooftops, paved streets, highways, and parking lots. Stormwater can carry sediment, oil, grease, nitrogen, phosphorus, and other pollutants into storm drains and then, untreated, into nearby waterbodies.
It is crucial to ensure that pollutants do not enter waterways. Most stormwater drainage systems do not provide treatment to prevent contamination of stormwater. Improperly managed stormwater runoff is a leading cause of flooding, which can lead to property damage, as well as road safety hazards. Improperly managed stormwater can also clog catch basins and culverts with sediment and debris.
